Netflix has confirmed that season 3 of Squid Game is coming in 2025. The streaming giant recently released a promo video with a specific release date – June 27, 2025. However, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that the new season is not a traditional third installment, but rather a continuation of season 2.
According to Hwang, he initially envisioned Squid Game as a single series, divided into two seasons. The story was designed to be a single, 14-episode arc, with the first half concluding in season 2 and the second half continuing the plot in season 3. Production on both seasons occurred simultaneously, resulting in a three-year gap between season 1 and 2.
Netflix may be releasing Squid Game season 3 early due to its massive popularity and fan demand for cliffhangers from season 2 to be resolved sooner. The streaming giant is expected to focus on other popular shows like Stranger Things and Wednesday in the second half of 2025, with Squid Game likely taking center stage.
A release schedule for these popular shows has been proposed, with Squid Game dropping in June 2025, followed by Stranger Things season 5 around October-November 2025 and Wednesday season 2 possibly released in November-December 2025.
