Nolan Arenado, star third baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals, invoked his no-trade clause to block a deal that would have sent him to the Houston Astros, sources confirmed on Wednesday. The move confirms earlier reports by MLB.com.
Despite this setback, negotiations between the two teams continue for a potential trade involving Arenado, although a deal is not imminent. This comes after the Astros traded outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs just days ago. Additionally, third baseman Alex Bregman’s future with the team remains uncertain due to his impending free agency.
Arenado, 33, is considered one of the best third basemen in the game, excelling both at the plate and in the field. Last season, he hit .272 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs for the Cardinals. With 10 Gold Gloves under his belt, Arenado has established himself as a career force with impressive stats: a .285 hitter and 341 home runs over 12 seasons.
