StarCraft Shooter Project Revived at Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment is reportedly working on a third attempt to turn its popular game StarCraft into a shooter. This news comes after Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier revealed that the company is in the early stages of development, led by Dan Hay, a developer who previously worked on Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise.

The team, which consists of a small group of individuals, is “incubating” the project under Hay’s leadership. However, it’s worth noting that Blizzard has already canceled two previous attempts at creating a StarCraft shooter: StarCraft: Ghost and Ares. Despite this history, Schreier remains hopeful about the project’s prospects.

The StarCraft universe has remained relatively untouched in recent years as Blizzard focused on other games like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. However, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer recently announced that StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection will join PC Game Pass on November 5, 2024.

As a result of this development, fans are cautiously optimistic about the project’s chances of success. With the help of experienced talent from Xbox first-party studios, the game could potentially turn out to be well-received. However, given its early stage and lack of public information, it’s likely that details about the project will take time to emerge.
