A rare astronomical event, known as a planetary parade, will take place in the January night sky. Six planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – will be visible to the naked eye, offering a unique opportunity for stargazers.
The planets won’t appear in a straight line, but they’ll be close together on one side of the sun. The best view is on clear nights, with ideal viewing times usually 2-3 hours after sunset. Face south and look southwest for Venus and Saturn, while Jupiter will shine brighter in the southern sky and Mars in the southeast or east.
Download stargazing apps to help locate the planets, which will be visible from late January through mid-February. The parade will slowly conclude by spring, but this event provides a glimpse into our solar system’s beauty.
