Starlink Experiences Widespread Network Outage

Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, reported a “network outage” and is working on a solution. The outage was so severe that Downdetector logged over 60,000 reports of issues. As the owner and operator of SpaceX, which also runs Starlink, Musk apologized for the outage on his social media site X, stating that service will be restored shortly.

The T-Satellite service, a collaboration between Starlink and T-Mobile, was launched to provide internet access in areas without carrier towers. However, it’s unclear if this service was affected by or involved in the outage. Despite this uncertainty, Musk has been promoting the success of the direct-to-cell-phone service, saying it is growing rapidly.

It’s worth noting that Starlink’s performance can be affected as its popularity increases. A recent study found that internet speeds and reliability decrease with increasing usage. Musk’s social media site X has experienced several outages in recent months, leading to calls for operational improvements.

The outage highlights the challenges of providing reliable and fast internet connectivity to rural areas. As SpaceX continues to work on resolving the issue, users can expect updates from the company and potentially improved service in the future.
