Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet network has experienced a global outage, leaving thousands without internet connection. The company stated that it is actively implementing a solution to resolve the issue.
Reports flooded the Down Detector website on Tuesday before 9pm, with 65% citing a “total blackout”. The company’s website appears to be down, showing a “no healthy upstream” error message.
Starlink provides coverage to around 130 countries and territories, aiming to provide global mobile broadband. However, people on social media have complained about the outage, including citizens from Colorado, Germany, and Zimbabwe.
Some customers have taken to social media to express their frustration with the delay in resolving the issue. One customer said that they were lucky to have 5G on their phone, observing that “the only downfall to Starlink is when it goes down, your only alternative is your phone network”.
Earlier reports suggested that Starlink was experiencing outages in certain countries, but this appears to be a global phenomenon. Director of Internet Analysis Doug Madory stated that the outage is now over two hours in duration, making it Starlink’s longest outage since becoming a major service provider.
Elon Musk has confirmed that the network outage will end shortly and promised to remedy the root cause to prevent similar outages in the future.
