The Dallas Stars advanced to the Western Conference finals for the third season in a row after defeating the top-seeded Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in Game 6 on Saturday night. Thomas Harley scored the winning goal in overtime, giving the Stars their first win at home against the Jets this postseason.
Mark Scheifele had a notable game, scoring for the Jets hours after his father’s unexpected death, but also tripping a Dallas forward with 14 seconds left in regulation to set up the power play. The Stars capitalized on the opportunity and took the lead.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 22 saves, including an incredible diving save, to secure his sixth playoff series win. The Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck stopped 18 shots but couldn’t prevent the loss that marked a winless record for Winnipeg on the road this postseason.
Winnipeg captain Adam Lowry expressed disappointment and pride for his team, which fought hard despite falling short. Coach Scott Arniel praised the Jets’ courage in playing after Scheifele’s father’s passing.
The Stars will host Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. With this win, they continue their bid for a second Stanley Cup title and look to prove they have something special going on.
