The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival is just one month away from unveiling its highly anticipated lineup, with several A-list stars set to participate. The festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, is racing against time to assemble a diverse selection of films that are expected to generate buzz.
Several big-name titles, including Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine” starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, Luca Guadagnino’s “#MeToo-themed thriller ‘After the Hunt’ featuring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest collaboration with Emma Stone in “Bugonia,” are likely to make their Venice debut.
Netflix is also expected to have a strong presence on the Lido, with several films set to premiere. These include Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama “Jay Kelly” starring George Clooney, Guillermo del Toro’s monster movie adaptation of “Frankenstein,” and Kathryn Bigelow’s latest thriller “A House of Dynamite.”
Other notable titles in the mix include Jim Jarmusch’s triptych picture “Father Mother Sister Brother” starring Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver, as well as Italian films like Pietro Marcello’s biopic “Duse” about legendary stage diva Eleonora Duse.
The 82nd edition of Venice will take place from August 27 to September 6. The lineup is set to be announced on July 22.
