Tom Cruise, Dolly Parton, Debbie Allen, and Wynn Thomas will be among the recipients of this year’s special honorary Oscars at the Governors Awards in November. The Academy president, Janet Yang, praised them as “four legendary individuals” whose careers have left a lasting impact on the film-making community.
Cruise is set to receive his first Oscar after being nominated four times for his performances and producing work. Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt humanitarian award for her contributions to promoting human welfare and rectifying inequities in the industry. Allen has won five Emmys and been nominated for two Tony awards, while Thomas’s credits include notable films such as Hidden Figures and Da 5 Bloods.
The honorary Oscars recognize lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the film-making arts, or outstanding service to the Academy. Last year’s winners included casting director Juliet Taylor and posthumous award recipient Quincy Jones. This year’s honorees will be recognized for their extraordinary careers and commitment to the community, solidifying their places in Hollywood history.
