Jason Statham’s thriller “A Working Man” has taken the No. 1 spot at the box office, beating the Disney remake “Snow White.” The film, directed by David Ayer and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, grossed $15.2 million in its debut weekend. Despite mixed reviews from critics, Statham’s bankability has helped the movie succeed.
The unexpected win marks a turning point for “Snow White,” which had been predicted to remain the top film but instead dropped 66% in its second weekend. The film’s poor performance is attributed to bad buzz and backlash.
On the other hand, “A Working Man” reteams Statham with Ayer following last year’s successful “The Beekeeper.” This time around, Statham plays a construction worker with an elite military past. The movie’s opening was similar to its predecessor, launching with $16.5 million.
Other new releases this weekend include “Death of a Unicorn,” “The Woman in the Yard,” and “Chosen: The Last Supper.” While none made a significant impact, “The Chosen: Last Supper” fared relatively well, collecting $11.5 million from 2,235 theaters.
The box office has seen a decline overall, with sales down 11% from the same point in 2024 and nearly 40% from 2019. Analysts predict that upcoming releases, including Warner Bros.’ “Minecraft Movie,” may help revitalize the market.
