Valve has released a new beta client update for the Steam Deck, focusing on improving battery life. To access this update, users must be on the Preview/Beta channel.
Key changes include:
– A fix for an error on the Downloads page when a free-to-play game is removed during installation
– Reduced polling rates while the Steam Frame Limiter is active to save power, potentially saving up to 6% of battery life when running at 30fps in low-power games like Half-Life 2
– A fix for errors related to virtual menu settings bound to gyro
This update demonstrates Valve’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Steam Deck’s performance and user experience. The improved battery features have already been put to good use by users, with some achieving impressive playtimes despite a battery health rating of 70%. To monitor battery health, users can check the desktop mode status through KDE or look for the battery icon in the taskbar.
Note: Valve has not yet implemented a built-in battery health indicator within SteamOS.
