The latest Steam Hardware Survey has revealed significant gains for AMD CPUs, high-RAM PC configurations, and Windows 11 adoption. AMD’s CPU user share increased by 4.96% to 38.73%, driven by the growing popularity of its Zen 5 processors with 3D V-Cache technology.
In contrast, Intel remains the market leader with a strong presence in pre-built and laptop systems. However, AMD is closing the gap, especially among PC builders who are considering high-RAM configurations. The survey shows that 64GB RAM systems have gained popularity, with a 0.59% increase in user adoption.
Windows 11 has also seen significant growth, with a massive 6.16% uplift in December to grab 54.96% of Steam users. This marks a major shift away from Windows 10, which dropped to 42.39% of user base.
The survey highlights the ongoing trend towards high-RAM PCs and the growing adoption of AMD CPUs. However, the market share is still skewed by Intel’s dominance in pre-built and laptop systems.
Another notable trend is the decline in 6GB VRAM GPUs, with a drop of over two-thirds among Steam users. This suggests that gamers are increasingly demanding more VRAM for modern AAA gaming.
The survey also points to a larger issue in the PC hardware market, where Intel’s strong presence may be deterring some builders and vendors from supporting AMD products. The industry is still grappling with the legacy of past disputes between Intel and AMD, which has led to concerns about market sentiment and product availability.
