A popular indie game on Steam, Schedule 1, is under investigation by publisher Movie Games S.A. due to copyright infringement claims over similarities with their own game, Drug Dealer Simulator. The developer of Schedule 1, TVGS, may face a legal claim for “committing an act of unfair competition” after the game’s launch in March.
According to reports, the investigation will examine elements of the game’s plot, mechanics, and user interface. Insider Gaming initially broke the news, stating that potential infringement of intellectual property rights was identified. The investigation aims to determine if Schedule 1’s gameplay and features bear characteristics of unfair competition against Drug Dealer Simulator.
Despite the impending legal issue, Schedule 1 has been a massive hit on Steam since its launch, thanks in part to word-of-mouth marketing.
