Steelers Address Fan Backlash After Trump Rally Appearance

The Pittsburgh Steelers organization has responded to angry fans who criticized quarterback Mason Rudolph and special teams captain Miles Killebrew for attending a rally held by President Donald Trump in West Mifflin, Penn. last week. In an email to season ticket holders, the team stated that players make their own individual decisions and do not necessarily represent the organization’s views.

Former Steelers player Rocky Bleier also attended the rally, where he presented Trump with a custom jersey and called him an “honorary Steeler.” Killebrew was invited on stage by Trump, who predicted Rudolph would be the team’s quarterback while waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision. Despite the team owning strong Democratic supporters, several former players have appeared at rallies for the President.

The Steelers’ response acknowledges fans’ passion and support, while also clarifying that individual player decisions are not representative of the organization as a whole. The team’s message is aimed at reassuring fans who felt upset by Rudolph and Killebrew’s attendance at the Trump rally.
