Steelers’ Cameron Heyward Seeks Contract Extension

Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward is among several players currently negotiating contract extensions with their current team. On Monday, he addressed his situation with reporters. “I’m looking for my contract to be addressed,” Heyward said. “Honestly, I want to be valued.”

Heyward’s current deal pays an average of $14.5 million per year, ranking 22nd among defensive tackles and 36th overall among defensive linemen. However, he is actually tied for 35th place via Spotrac.com.

“I know what I bring to this team, and what I’m capable of — on and off the field,” Heyward said. He acknowledged signing a new contract last year, but noted it came with a condition: expect him to return if he has an All-Pro season. Despite his first-team All-Pro performance, no new deal has been reached.

Heyward’s efforts began at the Scouting Combine in late February. With the Steelers opening the regular season in 27 days, negotiations are ongoing for the defensive star’s contract extension.
