The Atlanta Falcons’ roster announcement today will make it tougher for the Pittsburgh Steelers to pursue quarterback Kirk Cousins. With Cousins on the roster, he’ll guarantee himself $10 million, making his contract more difficult to move and possibly increasing the chances he’ll stay with the Falcons.
The Falcons could consider trading a draft pick in exchange for some of Cousins’ salary. However, this option has become less appealing due to Cousins’ hefty contract, which includes a four-year, $180 million deal signed last year.
Despite struggling after a torn Achilles in 2023, Cousins had a solid season with the Falcons, throwing for 3508 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 starts. The Steelers may have considered him a cheap option if his contract were more negotiable, but now that’s not an option.
