Steelers QB Search: Fields, Wilson, or Mystery Box?

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback situation is clear: they need a new starter. Plan A is re-signing Justin Fields as the interim option, given his affordable price tag and athletic ability. However, this choice may not be ideal for the team.

Plan B involves Russell Wilson, but most fans prefer the “mystery box” option due to past disappointments with Wilson in Steelers’ games. The quarterback’s camp has also blamed coordinator Arthur Smith for miscommunications on offense, which could lead to more issues.

The Steelers should avoid Sam Darnold, despite his better-than-current quarterbacks prospects. While Darnold excelled in Kevin O’Connell’s offense, he struggled against the Bengals, Browns, and Ravens, with a poor completion percentage and ratio of touchdowns to interceptions. These weaknesses would be exposed in the AFC North’s competitive quarterback market.

Darnold is suited for an offense that highlights his strengths and masks his weaknesses. Unfortunately, the Steelers are stuck with Smith, who caters to head coach Mike Tomlin’s conservative nature. This mismatch could result in Darnold failing in black and gold.
