The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off their preseason with a promising display from Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Despite Aaron Rodgers’ assertion that “preseason football is not necessarily real football,” the two quarterbacks put on a show.
Mason Rudolph led the game, taking 15 snaps and completing nine of 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. His passer rating was 135.0. With rookie Will Howard injured, Skylar Thompson took over in the second half, handling 51 snaps. He completed 20 of 28 passes, generating 233 yards and three touchdown passes. His passer rating was 132.0.
Rudolph expressed his excitement to be back with the team, saying “Good to be back in the black and gold, man.” While ideally neither Rudolph nor Thompson will handle significant playing time this season, their performances suggest they can keep the Steelers’ cause alive if needed.
