Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in Saturday’s AFC Super Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but expressed his love for the organization and its future prospects. Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in the offseason, is optimistic about the team’s championship potential.
Wilson, 36, missed the first six games of the season due to a calf injury but returned to start the final 11 games, including the postseason. He finished the regular season with 2,482 passing yards and 16 touchdowns, as well as two rushing scores.
Despite some notable successes, such as throwing for over 270 yards in the third quarter against the Ravens, Wilson highlighted areas where the team fell short, particularly in starting strong performances. The Steelers struggled to score on their opening possession throughout the season, but found success in the second half, averaging four touchdowns and five field goals.
Wilson emphasized the importance of early-game execution, acknowledging that the team’s inability to start games well cost them in 17 or 18 consecutive games. However, he remains confident in the team’s ability to continue growing and improving, with a focus on recalibrating their approach and building upon last season’s successes.
“I love this place,” Wilson said of the Steelers organization. “I think we have a championship-caliber football team. We just didn’t execute early enough. I’m excited for 2025 and beyond.”
