Stellantis CEO Vacuum Sparks Apple CFO Luca Maestri as Top Contender

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares’ sudden resignation has sent shockwaves through the automotive industry. The board is now racing to appoint a new leader by 2025, with several internal and external candidates in the mix. One name that’s generating significant buzz is Luca Maestri, Apple’s Chief Financial Officer.

Maestri brings a unique blend of experience from both the automotive and technology sectors. With stints at General Motors, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Xerox, he joined Apple in 2013 under Tim Cook’s leadership. His financial expertise could be a valuable asset for Stellantis as it shifts towards electric and connected vehicles.

Choosing a candidate from the tech sector makes sense given Stellantis’ chairman John Elkann’s plan to reposition the group. This approach is similar to the hiring of Benedetto Vigna at Ferrari in 2021. A tech leader like Maestri could enhance synergy between automotive manufacturing and technological innovation, accelerating the company’s transition.

However, the nomination process remains uncertain, with Stellantis denying any decision on Maestri. The selection process will conclude in coming months, and other names like Renault CEO Luca De Meo are being mentioned, although they’ve shown little interest. For now, the interim management continues under a committee established by John Elkann.
