Residents of Stevenson Ranch are breathing a sigh of relief as an AT&T communications hub near their neighborhood is set to have its power restored. The smell of smoke from the generator has been a nuisance for months, and residents had been seeking answers at community meetings. According to Vladimir Shalkevich, who lives 100 feet from the generator, the issue began in October when a pedestal failed, taking out service to the area. Southern California Edison (SCE) failed to restore power due to an address discrepancy.
L.A. County contacted the California Highway Patrol to have the generator towed due to its unauthorized parking on Stevenson Ranch Parkway. A 60-day permit was later issued for the generator, allowing it to stay until work begins. The source indicates that actual construction is not needed; AT&T only requires power restoration, which could happen in a few days.
In the meantime, residents are dealing with the unpleasant smell and its effects, particularly during windy afternoons when the smoke from the generator drifts straight towards their homes.
