Veteran stock car driver Robbie Brewer, 53, died over the weekend after suffering a medical emergency during a racing event at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The incident occurred when his car struck head-on a wall on the quarter-mile track.
Brewer was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital, where he sadly passed away. Track officials expressed their condolences to Brewer’s family and friends, describing him as “a talented and passionate racer” who will be deeply missed by the racing community.
A long-time competitor at Bowman Gray, Brewer began his career in 1990 and made nearly 260 starts in the Sportsman Division, winning the points championship in 2011. Fellow driver Brad Lewis remembered Brewer as a close friend and colleague, saying he was “like a big brother” to him.
The incident marks a tragic loss for the racing community, with fans and competitors alike mourning the passing of a respected competitor.
