US stocks plummeted on Monday as President Donald Trump renewed his attacks on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 972 points or 2.5%. The S&P 500 fell 2.4% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.6%.
The sharp decline marked the Dow’s worst April since 1932, according to Dow Jones Market Data. This is the sixth time this month the S&P 500 has fallen by more than 1.5%, the most frequent drop since June 2022.
