Strauss Zelnick Downplays Grand Theft Auto VI Delay

Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has clarified the delay in releasing Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), stating it is less than six months. In an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Zelnick mentioned that the game was initially scheduled to release between November 26th and December 21st, 2025. However, a new exact date has been announced as May 26th, 2026.

Zelnick emphasized that all gaming companies consider each other’s release schedules to avoid overlapping releases. He also explained that the GTA 6 delay is a result of Take-Two and Rockstar Games’ desire to polish and deliver the best possible experience for consumers. The company prioritizes quality over strict adherence to release dates, which has contributed to its success.

The CEO also discussed his lack of involvement in gaming, stating he does not play video games at all. When asked about his role, Zelnick highlighted that his primary focus is on attracting and retaining top talent, allowing them to excel without unnecessary interference. This approach has been successful for Take-Two Interactive, according to Zelnick.

The interview also covered topics like mobile gaming, AI, and more. For the latest news on GTA and Red Dead, follow RockstarINTEL for updates and subscribe to their newsletter for a weekly round-up of all things Rockstar Games.
