Capcom has finally released its latest DLC fighter for Street Fighter 6, Mai Shiranui, after weeks of anticipation. Mai’s gameplay is aggressive, intense, and features tools to control matches from anywhere on the screen. While no release date has been announced, her kit promises to be a formidable addition to the game.
Mai’s style of play remains largely unchanged from her previous games, with strong air tools and zoning capabilities. However, her ability to turn those moves into damage looks particularly impressive in Street Fighter 6. Her trademark moves, such as Kachousen and Musasabi No Mai, return, but new mechanics add depth to her gameplay.
The Steam Blog post breaks down Mai’s mechanics, highlighting “Flame Stocks” that empower most of her moves. With five stocks available, players can create powerful setups or unleash a massive combo by using them all. This system makes Mai feel like an “install” type character, requiring meter to activate her full potential.
Capcom also drew inspiration from Mai’s past games, including her rivalry with Chun-Li and updated costumes. The trailer features a battle between the two characters and includes some of Mai’s lesser-known moves.
While no release date has been announced, speculation suggests that Mai may be released in February. With Terry’s full character guide released just last month, this could be a pattern for future DLC fighters.
