Study Reveals Alarming Rise in Breakfast Cereal Sugar, Fat

A recent study analyzing 1,200 newly introduced or reformulated children’s breakfast cereals between 2010 and 2023 has found alarming trends. The research reveals that total fat and sodium content increased by nearly one-third over the period, while sugar content rose by almost 11%. The cereal protein content decreased significantly from 1.97 grams to 1.69 grams per serving between 2010 and 2020, and dietary fiber levels also dropped. These findings highlight the need for closer scrutiny of breakfast cereals as a common morning staple among children.
