Stuntman Ronnie Rondell Jr., Known for ‘Wish You Were Here,’ Dies at 88

Ronnie Rondell Jr., a renowned stuntman with a family full of performers, has passed away at the age of 88. The late actor was best known to Pink Floyd fans as the businessman who got his mustache burned off during the cover shoot for the band’s iconic 1975 album “Wish You Were Here.”

Rondell Jr.’s impressive career spanned over six decades, with notable roles in films like “Twister,” “The Matrix Reloaded,” and “Blazing Saddles.” He also worked on numerous television shows, including “Baretta” and “Charlie’s Angels.”

Born on February 10, 1937, Rondell Jr. excelled in gymnastics and diving before joining the U.S. Navy, where he specialized in scuba diving and mine force demolition. After his service, he worked in construction before transitioning into stunt work.

Rondell Jr.’s accomplishments in the field of stunts are impressive, with broken bones, detached limbs, and concussions among his many injuries. Despite this, he continued to push himself, even taking part in a car chase sequence in “The Matrix Reloaded” 20 years after his last film appearance.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; grandchildren Brandon, Rachel, and Dalton; great-grandson Rocco; brother Ric Rondell, a production manager in Hollywood; and son R.A. Rondell, who also worked as a stunt performer.

Rondell Jr.’s legacy will live on through the countless films and television shows he worked on throughout his career.
