Suarez Faces Challenges at Mexico’s Biggest Cup Race

NASCAR driver Daniel Suarez is set to compete in the inaugural Cup points race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, but his team faces significant challenges due to travel issues.

Only five crew members will be present on the No. 99 car during today’s practice sessions, as two chartered flights were grounded. Crew chief Matt Swiderski was among those affected by the delays. The team had initially planned for 20 crew members, but a replacement plane arrived too late to continue their journey.

Swiderski explained that they had to prioritize who needed to be at the track and borrowed spotters from Xfinity teams to help with today’s practice session. However, this reduced team size will make it difficult to make changes quickly, potentially impacting performance.

Despite these challenges, Suarez is looking forward to competing in his native country and being the only Mexican driver in the Cup race. The team will regroup on Saturday, when some engineers are expected to arrive, bringing the total number of crew members up to 15.
