Subaru has unveiled the 2025 Forester Hybrid at the Chicago Auto Show, marking its first North American introduction of a hybrid-electric powertrain. The Forester Hybrid features Subaru’s new Strong Hybrid system, developed in collaboration with Toyota. This system combines a 2.5-liter boxer engine with two motors: one for regenerative generation and another for propulsion.
The Strong Hybrid system aims to improve fuel economy by up to 40% city and 25% overall, comparable to the Japanese Crosstrek Hybrid. With an estimated range of 581 miles, it will replace Subaru’s previous hybrid-electric system. The EPA ratings show a significant improvement over the non-hybrid model: 35 mpg combined, compared to 34 mpg for the standard Forester. Pricing starts at US$34,995 plus destination.
