Subaru Unveils Limited-Production WRX STI S210 Prototype

Subaru has revealed the S210 prototype of its high-performance WRX STI model ahead of the Tokyo auto show. The new STI features a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) instead of a manual, and it’s expected to produce 296 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

Only 500 copies of the limited-production S210 will be sold worldwide, with its fate uncertain for the US market. Despite initial claims that the gas-fed WRX STI was dead, Subaru has seemingly changed its mind.

Under the hood, the S210 boasts a retuned engine, upgraded intake and exhaust parts, and an enhanced turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four, producing more power than the standard engine. The car also features performance-focused upgrades such as extra bracing, adaptive dampers, and improved brakes.

The exterior design is notable for its unique mesh grille, S210 badge, and red trim on the lower edge of the front bumper. A subtle wing mounted on the back completes the look.

Inside, the cabin resembles that of a regular WRX, with carbon-fiber-backed Recaro seats, power adjustments, and microsuede-wrapped armrests. Pricing has not been announced yet, but it’s expected to be higher than the previous S209 model.
