Subaru introduced two new Forester models, a 2025 Hybrid and a 2026 Wilderness, at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show. The Hybrid improves fuel economy by up to 40% compared to the non-hybrid model, while the Wilderness offers off-road-capable features and trim items.
The 2025 Forester Hybrid is priced starting at $36,415 and has an estimated EPA rating of 35/34/35 miles per gallon. In contrast, the 2026 Forester Wilderness boasts 9.3 inches of ground clearance and a revised 2.5-liter flat-four engine that produces 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque.
The Wilderness model features improved approach, departure, and breakover angles due to its increased ground clearance, as well as enhanced stability and comfort on- and off-road. It also comes with standard roof rails and an 800-pound static load capacity.
Pricing for the Wilderness model is expected to be announced closer to its fall launch date. Both new models are expected to boost Forester sales, following last year’s 15.1% increase in sales.
Subaru’s latest additions aim to improve off-road capability and fuel efficiency, making them attractive options for customers seeking a versatile crossover SUV. With the introduction of these two new models, Subaru continues to expand its lineup with innovative features and capabilities.
