Sudan’s Civil War Enters New Phase as Khartoum Falls to SAF
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has taken control of key locations in the capital city of Khartoum, dealing a significant blow to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF had been struggling to maintain control after a series of defeats, including the loss of the presidential palace. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the army chief and de facto president since 2019, has returned to Khartoum for the first time in two years.
The SAF’s victory marks a significant shift in the Sudanese civil war, which has been ongoing since a coup in 2019. The RSF had been seen as a key player in the conflict, but their loss of control over Khartoum signals a potential turning point in the war.
As the SAF takes back control, it remains to be seen how they will proceed with the conflict. However, one thing is certain: the situation on the ground has changed significantly, and the SAF is now firmly in charge.
