Sudan’s RSF Attacks Kill Over 200, Delay Political Charter Signing

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have carried out attacks that have killed more than 200 people over the past three days, according to activists. The paramilitary group has been losing ground in central Sudan but controls most of the west and parts of the capital Khartoum.

The RSF’s attacks occurred in villages around al-Gitaina, leaving many dead or injured. Witnesses described the violence as indiscriminate, with dozens killed instantly and others shot while trying to flee across the Nile River.

The RSF has been accused of extensive human rights violations, including genocide, by the United Nations and the US. The group is now assembling allied politicians and armed group leaders in Kenya’s capital to sign a political charter that could pave the way for a breakaway government.

However, the signing of the charter has been postponed due to disagreements among rebel groups, including Fadlallah Burma Nasir’s Umma Party. The delay may impact the RSF’s ability to solidify its gains and secure external support.

The conflict in Sudan is part of a broader humanitarian crisis that has left millions displaced. Both the RSF and army have been accused of human rights abuses, with the US considering the RSF responsible for genocide in areas under its control.
