Sudan’s RSF Pulls Out of Khartoum as Army Consolidates Gains

The head of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, announced on Sunday that his group had withdrawn from the capital city of Khartoum. The move comes after nearly two years of war and follows a series of military victories for the army.

According to Dagalo, the RSF has pulled out of Khartoum but vowed to return with even stronger determination. He accused the rival army forces of mistaking any negotiations or agreements as false, saying that only the language of arms would prevail.

The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently expressed hope for a diplomatic solution to end the war in Sudan. However, the conflict has left millions displaced and killed over 12 million people, with widespread famine and displacement reported by the United Nations.

As the army continues to consolidate its gains, it has taken control of key sites in Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman, including a major market that had previously been used by the RSF. The RSF still hold some territory in Omdurman.

The war has divided Sudan into two areas: the army controls the east and north, while the RSF dominates Darfur in the west and parts of the south.
