The main event of SummerSlam saw Cody Rhodes reclaim the Undisputed WWE Championship in an explosive Street Fight against John Cena. The American Nightmare executed a piledriver on Cena, but the champion somehow kicked out.
A code red from Cena on the outside gave way to a huge AA through the announce table. Cena even turned back the clock with a flying leg drop followed by another AA, but not even that was enough to pin the challenger.
The two Superstars battled through the crowd, culminating in Cena carrying Rhodes up through the elevator shaft on the stage and giving his opponent an Attitude Adjustment onto the ramp.
Rhodes snapped back into action by sending the champion through a table and hitting Cross Rhodes. However, Cena hit a trifecta of Attitude Adjustments, with the last one being a Super AA that resulted in a long two-count.
Rhodes countered another Super AA, this time sending Cena through a table with an Avalanche Cutter before saluting Cena one final time and hitting a match-ending Cross Rhodes.
In the end, it was not meant to be for Cena, as Rhodes’ determination and skill ultimately paid off. The American Nightmare’s victory marked a triumphant return to the top of the WWE hierarchy.
Meanwhile, in other matches, Roman Reigns & Jey Uso defeated Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed, while Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Sami Zayn also emerged victorious over Karrion Kross, and Tiffany Stratton successfully defended her WWE Women’s Title against Jade Cargill.
However, the biggest surprise of SummerSlam came when Brock Lesnar exploded back onto the scene, sending the WWE Universe into a frenzy. After a lengthy showdown with Cena, The Beast Incarnate nearly drove Cena through the ring with a thunderous F-5, leaving fans wondering what’s next for this dominant force in the WWE.
The night also saw Seth Rollins cash in on CM Punk to capture the World Heavyweight Championship in an unexpected turn of events.
