New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, but why not get a head start on the party with a game of Connections? This popular New York Times daily word game is free to play and can be found on the NYT website or Games app. To play, arrange 16 words into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them.
The groups are color-coded: yellow for the easiest, blue in the middle, and purple for the most difficult. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If incorrect, you’ll lose a life, but don’t worry, hints are here to help!
Today’s 16 words include PINK, PONY, CLUB, AIRPLANE, GRINDER, WATER, ANTE, HERO, WRAP, SETTLE, JEOPARDY, BEANS, FILTER, MELT, COUGH, and YAHOO. The yellow group is lunch orders, the green group is used to make coffee, the blue group is pay with “up”, and the purple group is names featuring “!”.
The writer of this blog played the game and had a great time, but admitted to not getting one connection right. They shared their answers and solutions for each group.
