Commercials for Super Bowl LIX have sold out, with at least 10 spots selling for a record-breaking $8 million each, according to reports. Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch initially stated that the ad spots were sold at “record pricing” in November.
However, as spots dwindled, prices increased significantly, with some reports suggesting an increase of nearly $500,000 more than usual. This year’s Super Bowl ads are expected to draw over 120 million viewers, making it a highly coveted event for advertisers.
The mix of ad categories includes beverages, snacks, tech companies, and telcos, with a focus on AI in this year’s commercials. Pharmaceutical companies will also be represented, while movie promos and streamers have seen a decline. Automakers are largely absent from the Super Bowl lineup, aside from Jeep and Ram brands.
Despite some production delays due to the California wildfires, advertisers made accommodations to ensure their ads would air. Some of the first ads to debut include Budweiser’s ad featuring a Clydesdale foal, Michelob Ultra’s ad with Willem Dafoe and Catherine O’Hara, and Hellmann’s ad revisiting the classic “When Harry Met Sally” scene.
Super Bowl LIX will be played on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs.
