The prices of individual Super Bowl snacks may fluctuate this year, but overall, store-bought food and drinks will cost just 0.1 percent more than last year. According to a Wells Fargo report, food for 10 people, including chips, guacamole, beer, and chicken wings, will cost about $139.
However, some popular Super Bowl foods are becoming pricier. Chicken wings rose by 7.2 percent amid growing demand, while frozen shrimp is down 4 percent compared to last year. On the other hand, healthier options like cherry tomatoes and avocados saw significant price increases due to unfavorable growing conditions.
To save money, consumers can opt for whole ingredients over prepackaged products, which are becoming more expensive due to labor costs. Buying in bulk, such as two-liter bottles of soda instead of 12-ounce cans, is also recommended. Additionally, choosing alternative snacks like frozen pizza or tortilla chips could help balance the cost.
“It’s an opportunity for people to save money and craft a menu that allows them to do so,” said Robin Wenzel, group head of the Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute. With these options in mind, consumers can plan ahead and enjoy their Super Bowl snacks without breaking the bank.
