Super Bowl weekend is seeing several box office newcomers face significant drops in business. Dog Man, a family comedy starring Pete Davidson and Isla Fisher, has seen a 61% decline in its domestic earnings after its successful first opening weekend. Despite this drop, Dog Man remains projected to hold onto the top spot.
Other newcomers, including Heart Eyes, an Oscar-nominated horror thriller, and Love Hurts, an action-comedy starring Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, are also performing underwhelmingly. Heart Eyes is expected to earn between $8.5 million and $10 million in its opening weekend, while Love Hurts is projected to take in around $6 million.
In contrast, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King continues to hold strong at the box office, with a domestic total of over $235 million since its release on December 20. Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s horror thriller Companion rounds out the top five, earning around $3.4 million in its latest outing.
The box office numbers will be updated throughout the weekend as more information becomes available, with final numbers released on Monday.
