‘Superman’ Flies High but Falters Internationally

DC Studios’ highly anticipated “Superman” has made a strong opening with $220 million worldwide, bringing in a new era for the franchise. However, box office analyst Jeff Bock warns that international numbers are underwhelming, with a disappointing $95 million overseas haul.

Despite this, Warner Bros. Discovery stock jumped 2.4% following the film’s release. Analyst Dan Ives calls it “very impressive domestically” and praises the boost for the franchise.

Warner Bros. is now fast-tracking a “Wonder Woman” movie, with Matt Reeves’ just-submitted screenplay draft sparking excitement. However, stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will not be reprising their roles in future DCU films.

The film’s success largely depends on keeping audiences engaged, as it largely avoided cultural controversy until its release. Gunn’s vision for Superman’s identity as an immigrant resonated with some viewers, but sparked backlash from pro-Israel activists on social media.
