Dr. Casey Means, President Trump’s nominated surgeon general, plans to focus on “healing and prevention” instead of treating diseases aggressively. In a statement released during her confirmation hearing, Means said she aims to help Americans make healthy choices in environments that often hinder them.
Means’ testimony reflects the views of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement, which seeks to tackle chronic disease and challenge traditional medicine. However, her own medical background has raised concerns about her qualifications for the position. Means attended Stanford Medical School but never completed a surgical residency program due to becoming disillusioned with the practice.
As a result, she was never board-certified and cannot practice medicine in clinical settings. Her current medical license is inactive, and she has pledged to resign from an advisory role at a wellness company and stop promoting supplements if confirmed as surgeon general.
Means’ nomination marks one of the last major health nominees to appear before the Senate hearing and confirmation vote. Her testimony is expected to shape her stance on healthcare policy and priorities as the nation’s top doctor.
