Crunches may not be the most effective way to build a strong core. According to Fitness Coach Elise Young, there are four alternative exercises that can provide better results and even be easier on the body.
A strong core is essential for everyday activities, such as getting out of bed or sitting on the toilet. It also improves movement control and reduces the risk of injury during gym workouts. This new workout routine eliminates the need for planks, sit-ups, and crunches, making it ideal for beginners.
The exercises include the overhead march, kneeling halo, goblet march, and bear pull-throughs. These moves can be performed from a standing or kneeling position, making them suitable for those with lower back or neck pain. No weights are necessary – even household items like a large water bottle or a tin of food will do.
Perform each exercise for 8-12 reps, followed by a 30-second rest. Repeat the workout two more times and finish with a one-to-two-minute rest. This five-move routine is an excellent starting point for building a stronger, more stable mid-section without putting excessive strain on the body.
