Sweden Shooting Kills Three, Investigation Underway

At least three people have been killed in a shooting in Uppsala, Sweden on Tuesday, according to police. The deaths are being investigated as a homicide, and the suspect is believed to have fled the scene on an electric scooter.

Police received reports of loud bangs in the area earlier on Tuesday, and several people were found with injuries that indicated gunshots. The motive behind the incident is not yet clear.

This shooting comes amid high rates of gang violence in Sweden, which has been battling a wave of crime issues. In 2024, at least 40 people were shot dead in the country, although the number has decreased from a peak of 63 in 2022.

Sweden has strict gun laws, requiring license holders to obtain permits before owning a weapon. The country’s prime minister recently described a mass shooting in Örebro as the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history,” which killed ten people and injured six others.
