A gunman killed 11 people and injured five at an adult education centre in Örebro, Sweden, on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson, was found dead with a large amount of unused ammunition and four hunting rifles.
Authorities confirmed that Andersson acted alone and did not give any warnings before the attack. There is no indication it was a terrorist act. Police responded quickly, dispatching 130 officers to the scene after learning of the shooting.
The victims included three women and two men who were in stable condition after undergoing surgery for their serious injuries. The Syrian embassy offered condolences to the victims’ families.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene where students scrambled for cover as the gunman opened fire. “Those were the worst hours of my life,” said Hellen Werme, a student who survived the attack.
