Swedish School Shooting Leaves 10 Dead, Including Syrian Citizen

A gunman attacked a school in Orebro, Sweden, leaving 10 people dead, including a 29-year-old Syrian citizen named Salim Iskef. The suspected gunman, Rickard Andersson, was found dead at the scene with three guns.

Police faced an “inferno” when they entered the school building, with reports of chaos and smoke. While one Bosnian national was killed and another wounded, the embassy did not provide details on the number of Syrians affected. The Syrian embassy expressed condolences to the victims’ families and sympathies to the Swedish people.

Investigations revealed that Andersson had argued with a social worker after losing his welfare benefits. However, police initially stated that there was no evidence of gang links or terrorism. They are now looking into different motives for the attack.

The school, Risbergska, provides adult education and Swedish classes for immigrants. Young residents in Orebro had expressed fears of a racial element to the shooting, which has sparked frustration among some members of the local community. Police have confirmed that three guns were found at the scene next to the gunman.

As the investigation continues, police are working to match DNA samples and release more information about the suspect. A name was initially withheld due to caution but is expected to be released in the coming days.
