A Swiss International Air Lines flight that made an emergency landing last week due to smoke in the cabin has claimed the life of a crew member. The incident occurred on flight LX1885, which was traveling from Bucharest to Zurich on December 23. The plane was forced to land in Graz, Austria, after an engine issue was detected.
All 74 passengers were evacuated safely, but two crew members were hospitalized, including one who died. The airline has declined to provide details about the deceased crew member or cause of death out of respect for their loved ones. Swiss International Air Lines attributed the incident to a problem with one of its engines and the need for improved protective equipment for cabin crew.
The airline’s previous statement described the incident as “the most serious in our 23-year history” and expressed shock and sadness at the loss of life. The incident has left passengers who received medical attention being discharged, having recovered from their injuries.
