A devastating glacier collapse has buried an entire Swiss Alpine village under a thick layer of ice, rock, and mud. The unstable glacier, which had been warned to be unstable by geologists, lost its structural integrity, causing widespread destruction in Blatten, a small village above the Alps. Mayor Rudolf Stoeckli described the disaster as “losing our village,” with one person still missing.
