Switch 2 Banned for Used Game Cards Bought on Facebook Marketplace

A Nintendo Switch 2 owner claims they got banned after downloading patches for used game cards bought from Facebook Marketplace. Reddit user dmanthey inserted each game into their Switch 2 to patch, but found restricted online services the next day. After contacting Nintendo support, they provided proof of purchase and were unbanned soon after. This incident highlights a potential consequence of buying used games: if two instances of Nintendo’s unique code appear online at once, the account gets banned.

This anti-piracy policy isn’t new for Nintendo, but it has become relevant again with the recent Switch 2 release. The company has long combated piracy and recently amended its user agreement to allow itself to “brick” a Switch running pirated games or mods. Buyers should be cautious when purchasing used game cards to avoid getting mistakenly banned.
