Nintendo is reportedly set to release its next-generation console, the Switch 2, in June this year, with analysts predicting a premium price tag and massive sales figures.
According to claims from a former Nintendo employee, the company aims to launch the new console in June, which would be a strategic move to capitalize on the summer season. The predicted price range for the Switch 2 is between $400 to $499 at launch, although some analysts believe it could cost as much as $499.
The estimated price jump is attributed to the upgraded hardware, with the new chip costing around $130-$150 per unit, compared to the original Switch’s Nvidia chip, which costs $80 per unit. This would put the Switch 2 on par with high-end consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Despite the potentially steep price tag, some analysts believe that Nintendo will still attract early adopters due to its strong lineup of games and backward compatibility. The company has previously sold over 151 million units of the original Switch, which suggests a loyal customer base ready to upgrade to the new console. With an estimated launch stock count of 6-8 million units, the Switch 2 is predicted to have one of the biggest console launches in history.
