Nintendo is shifting its strategy by making exclusive titles available on both its new handheld console and PC platforms. The sequel to Supergiant Games’ popular Hades, Hades II, will be a timed exclusive for the first Switch and Switch 2. This move comes as a surprise, given Nintendo’s history of limiting games to one platform.
The decision is part of a broader trend of exclusivity on third-party titles for the Switch 2, which includes FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods in 2026. Meanwhile, Mario Kart World will be a launch title, followed by Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby AirRiders in later years.
Nintendo’s strategy may seem counterintuitive, as it doesn’t offer PC gamers access to its iconic franchises like Mario or Zelda. However, this move allows the company to capitalize on the growing market of PC gamers who also own a Switch, making the console their primary gaming device.
Market research firm DFC Intelligence found that most PC gamers’ secondary gaming device is indeed the Nintendo Switch. The $450 price point of the Switch 2 may be a barrier to its secondary console status, but Nintendo’s focus on third-party exclusives and timely releases aims to justify the higher costs.
The company’s approach relies on creating FOMO (fear of missing out) among gamers by releasing popular titles simultaneously across platforms. With Hades II and other exclusive titles, Nintendo hopes to attract PC gamers who are eager for these experiences. However, if game prices rise due to tariffs, it remains to be seen whether this strategy can offset the increased costs.
By shifting its focus towards third-party exclusives, Nintendo aims to make the Switch 2 a more attractive option for PC gamers and fans of popular franchises. The company’s ability to execute this new strategy will ultimately determine its success in the market.
